My husband loves adventure. Skydiving, bungee jumping, those fair rides that throw you around at questionable speeds and somehow leave people wanting to go again. If there is adrenaline involved, there is a very good chance he will be interested.

Thankfully, hiking happens to be one of his favourite things too.
Over the years, it has taken us to all sorts of places, close and far. Some trips are planned, others are just us deciding to get out and see somewhere new. What I like most is that hiking never really feels like exercise. Yes, there are all the health benefits people talk about, but that is not what stays with me afterwards.

The atmosphere always feels more relaxed. There is nowhere to rush to and nothing much competing for attention. The children get to run around freely and investigate absolutely everything they see. A stick becomes treasure. A puddle becomes an event. A path becomes an expedition.

And walking side by side makes conversations happen more naturally too. I also think hiking is one of those things that becomes even better with people. It works with family, with friends, or with a group. There is something nice about exploring places together and discovering corners you probably would never have seen otherwise.

I still have absolutely no plans to join him for skydiving. But hiking? That one I can happily get behind.
